So here is a guide to booking accommodation for projects, whether you’re staying for a few days, or several months, you need to ensure the accommodation is fit for purpose.

Location, Location, Location

Arguably the most important aspect of any work-related accommodation, it is essential that you are a close enough distance, with easy transport routes, to the job site.

Always take into account travel times, this is something you can do via Google Maps, as you can check the location of the property to the workplace at specific times- i.e. if you need to arrive at 9AM, you can enter “arrive by 9AM” into the maps, and voila.

Nobody likes to finish work and drive more than an hour back home, so ensure this remains the case when booking your project accommodation.

Budget

For your business, cash flow is King, which is why in many cases it’s not financially smart to book the highest-end luxury stays and wipe out a large chunk of your projects’ profits.

Length Of Stay

Some projects run for a day, some for several months.

If you have a project which has a chance of over-running, it’s important to have options to allow you to stay, you don’t want to be rushing last minute to find a crappy hotel because you have to stay an extra few days.

This is why it’s so crucial to liaise with your Short-Term Accommodation manager, keep them in the loop so they know to keep an eye on their bookings’ calendar, and save you a spot.

Tying in to budget, the longer your stay, the better the discount. This generally runs across the board from hotels, to apartments and houses, but our pricing when compared to the main hotels is astonishingly better, and we have saved companies thousands because of this.

Requirements/Amenities

What do you need before and after work?

Comfy beds?

Free parking?

A fully-equipped kitchen?

Our properties have all of that and more.

After spending many nights in hotels myself, forced to eat takeaways and at restaurants (which was not great for the bank balance on top of having to go up a size in jeans), it is essential that all of our properties have fully equipped kitchens so you can cook and eat just as you would at home.

Take into account the requirements that you need for your job, will you have your vans with you and need enough room to park?

Will you need multiple seperate bedrooms?

Will you need fast Wi-Fi to finish off the paperwork once you’re back?

Think of the job, and the people on the job, and search for your accommodation accordingly.

Cancellation Policy

This one is important and can unfortunately catch people out.

Ensure that you know what the accommodation’s cancellation policy is; is it non-refundable? Or can you cancel within a certain time period, for example 14 days before check-in?

It is important to know this, especially when paying deposits because these can be kept by the accommodation providers if the Terms state.

So ensure that you read any Terms of Hire that you sign, and confirm with the host the cancellation policy, to avoid paying unnecessarily.
